The Central Depository System (CDS) keeps a record of the shares you own on the Colombo Stock Exchange. You need a CDS account to buy and hold listed shares.
An Inward Investment Account is a bank account in Sri Lanka for non-resident investors. Money comes in through it to buy securities, and sale proceeds and dividends can come back through it.
Foreign nationals living in or outside Sri Lanka can. So can Sri Lankans who hold dual citizenship or permanent residency abroad, and Sri Lankan citizens working overseas. I will confirm your category with you.

Usually a copy of your passport plus the bank's know-your-customer and tax declaration forms. Each bank sets its own list, so I check the current requirements with you before you start.
IIAs can generally be held in Sri Lankan rupees or major currencies such as US dollars, pounds and euros. The bank confirms what it offers.
